Has anyone sucessfully been able to get SUBTITLES to work with any of their video playback?
That is any SD or HD video playback of any of the supported file types. Video & Subtitle track.
MPG2, M2TS, MKV, etc...
Sub, SRT, SMI, etc...
If you have, how and with what movies?

I don't know about the LG but for my Curtis, I have to strip the subs out and put them into a folder that also contains the MKV (like what you would do with an avi file and subs). That's the only way they will play. I thought it was reported though that the 390 played them just fine as they were...

I've managed to play mkv files with srt subtitles.
What you need to do is put the srt file in the same directory and makse sure it has exactly the same file name as the mkv file.
You can then turn the subs on/off using the remote during playback

How are you ripping the blu-ray, creating the Mkv, and SRT files. As in what programs are you using. Especially for creating the SRT files?
Thanks

I have not ripped them myself they were done for me by a friend at work. I don't have a bluray drive in my PC so can only rip from DVDs at present.
I have 2 that have .srt subs, and both those definitely work.
You just need to have the .srt file in the same folder as the .mkv file and ensure the filenames (before the extension) are identical. Have you tried doing this yet?

Hi,
I just bought the LG BD390 as I had read good reviews about it being able to play mkv files. However, I cant get the subtitles to work. I have read through the forum and tried extracting the .srt files, making sure that the srt files and mkv files have the same name in the same folder, changed it to .txt but it still doesnt work. Would greatly appreciate any advice on how to overcome this problem. Thanks! -
First you have to rip the subtitle out of the M2TS file from the Blu-ray into a .SUP file.
Then you have to convert that .SUP file to a Text based .SRT file.
There are quite a few different programs that you can use to extract a .SUP subtitle file from a Blu-ray. eac3to is just one of the many.
Then you a program called SUPRIP to convert the SUP file to a TXT based SRT file. Google "SupRip"
Good luck! -
check your subs with SubtitleEdit from www.nikse.dk
after opening the subs i found out that 'File-Encoding' must be set to 'UTF-8' else the bd390 won't recognise the srt.
just open the srt in SubtitleEdit , then change 'File-Encoding' to 'UTF-8' and save the srt file .
now you can mux the srt into the mkv --> plays fine
or
when saving in the same folder as the mkv .
1 - save with same name as mkv --> plays fine
2 - save with different name --> on BD390 : first select srt (shown as checked on tv) and then select mkv --> plays fine
hope this helps.
