    I have an external DVD reader in an external USB enclosure. I have set it to 'cable select' and all is operating fine. A friend has suggested I should have set it to master. Should I leave it as it is ..or.. set it to master.

    Dont think it matters because its on USB,You wouldnt even need the pins on the drive.

    it may matter

    For grins, I bought a Firewire enclosure and put my DVD burner in it.
    Mine would only work if I switched the select to MASTER.

    if the drive is working now, I'd leave it alone
