  1. hi,
i have a 4X DVD-R burner, and i have noticed that sometime when i burn dvds it takes only 15-18 minutes, to burn about 4.3 GB and it takes about 60 minutes to burn the same information on a differnet brand of dvds. the dvds i am using are both 4X, then why is there such a big time difference in burning dvds. does anyone know why this happens??

  2. Update your user profile with your burner model, etc.

Then tell us what discs you are using that take 60 minutes, sounds like crappy/old discs that can only handle 1x burn speeds.

If some of your 4X disks are only burning at 1X then it is probably b/c your burner does not recognize them. You could try updating the firmware on your burner, find it at the manufacturers website or cdfreaks.com is a good place to look.

  5. Hey, I've got the same DVD burner, the firmware you'll probably want is x433, I can email it or find a link for you. It should allow 4x then, but I can't guarantee decent results, what is the media code of the discs? Check with DVDInfoPro, it's a free program. Let me know the media code on the generics and what brand they are called, I may be able to give you some more advice with this burner.
