  2. Video “line out” from the DVD recorder connect to ”video in” of the VCR.
Audio “line out” from the DVD recorder connect to “audio in” of the VCR.
The video/audio outputs from the VCR connect to a TV set.

  4. I have the Panasonic DMR-E85H ordered and I had a few questions.

    1. If you record a TV show on SP or XP can you transfer at high speed to DVD-R in LP or does it have to stay the original speed?

    2. If you record a TV show with high speed turned on, can you transfer it at normal speed? I know you have to have it on to be able to transfer at high speed.

I was reading the manual for it that I downloaded and it said it if you edit too much you can't transfer at high speed...

    3. How much is too much editing for it not to transfer at high speed? Would editing a 30 minute tv show into 20 minutes be too much? Or a 60 minute tv show into 40 minutes?

    4. When you timer program to hard drive can you go ahead and name it?

What does "first play" mean, it says select this before finalizing to make the top menu show. Or you can select "Title 1" and it plays without showing the menu.

    5. Does that mean you can choose to have the menu be shown or not on the disc when changing titles?

    6. When you transfer from Hard Drive to a DVD-R does that mean it erases from the Hard drive or does it just copy to DVD-R but still remains on Hard drive until you delete it?

    7. 3-D Y/C Seperation, On or off for tv shows? On or off for movies?

    8. Hybrid VBR Resolution, Automated or Fixed?

    9. Black level control is that for recording quality or playing quality?

    10. If you have 4 episodes of Friends recorded and edited with seperate titles on Hard Drive, can you transfer (high and normal) all 4 episodes to Disc at one setting and still be 4 titles? Or do you have to transfer 1 at a time?

    11. Have you had any problems with yours?

That is all for now. Thanks for any replys.

  5. Regarding #3 it does not seem to complain when I edit out commercials for a typical hour long show, shortening it from 60 minutes to around 44. Beyond that I can't say how much more cutting and splicing would trigger the no-high speed dub condition.

Regarding #6 when you dub from the HD to a DVD the program remains intact on the HD. Erasing is done from the Navigator and requires several key strokes prevent accidental erasure.

Regarding #11 my unit seemed very slow to download the TV-Guide program material. The first two nights it got nothing, the third night it picked up 2 full days and some scattered information on a few other days, and it finally filled out a complete 8 day schedule over the course of the next week. No problems since then with the TV-Guide. I had one instance where it locked up while I was playing with the TV-Guide menu before it had successfully downloaded the content. I am pretty sure I pushed a key repeatedly, and also pushed a few at the same time, which appeared to confuse it pretty badly. The TV-Guide menu appeared corrupt with neon coloring and unreadable text. I reset it and it has been fine ever since (approximately 6 weeks of perfect operation). It has produced no coasters when burning to DVD and I am very pleased with the ease of use and the quality of playback and on DVD's I have burned with it.
    Regards,

    Ender

  7. I'm sorry you are still not able to get your question answered, but maybe you can answer one for me.

If I set up the tv guide the first time to cable but no cable box, but then later get a cable box how do you set it up? Would it set it up automatically like it did the first time, or would you have to do it manually, and if so how?
My dad is a cable tech and he brings home a cable box the week he is on call (about once a month) to check channels and I didn't know how it would work to go back and forth between no box and then box (for a week) and then back to no box. I don't care about the tv guide working with the box since it already has a guide with it, I just didn't know how the channel set up would work.

I will ask my dad your question and maybe he can help.
    Thanks

  8. Without knowing your equipment the simple way is to hook it up like zorankarapancev suggested in his post

Put a store bought movie in your VCR and get a picture showing up on your tv, it will be by hitting video 1, video 2, aux, channel 3, whatever mode it takes to get the movie playing.

When you get the movie playing eject the video without hitting any buttons and put your blank video in the VCR. Hit play on your DVD and Record on your VCR

In a nutshell you just need to hit the button that makes your VCR show on the tv (video, video1, video2, aux, tv/aux, tv/vcr, ect).

Hope this helps. Let me know if you get it to work.

Don't forget to set your VHS recorder to L1 provided that those are the inputs you are using.
