Has anyone tried the Lumenlabs projector kit? I want to know of someone's experiences before starting to buy $400 worth of parts.

    Thanks!

This isn't the project where you put a tv in front of a lens. It is a lcd projected with a 400W or higher projection system. Results are awesome, but not enough details up front before spending the $$$.

i know exactly what it is ---- it is still the same crap ...

I could go on and on about lcd panels and heat and uv stabilization and beam spread and hot spotting and warping and lens aberations and focus points and planer surface and color temps and lack of and contrast and and and and .........

but waste your money and go for it ....

  7. Have you seen these results 1st hand?

In the old days I ran a portable computer with a
12 inch lcd panel designed to sit on
top of those old overhead projectors.
It had a res of 800x600.

While ok for basic text and slides, the
picture quality was marred by the cross-hatching
you get with magnified lcd screens. The lines
are so fine they almost disappear when photographed
with say ISO 400 print film, but to the human eye
    they are a huge distraction.

Also consider that you will be watching the picture
for 80 minutes or more. What looks great at first
glance can turn into a real headache down the track.

$1500 bucks can buy you $10,000 worth of 2 year
old projector technology. Some rainbows and minor
    artifacts but very viewable.

I've seen three of them first hand now. They spent around $300. The picture is awesome. Most of the issues you mentioned are taken care of or not enough of an isue to be visable. What do you expect for $300 though.

    Better then spending $1000.

I personally am not a big fan of cardboard boxes or plywood boxes sitting in my living room. I also have a real issue with the TV being in the back of the room instead of the front. That's right up there with leaving only a little milk left over in the carton in the refridgerator.

You could paint them gray or cover them in duct tape to make them look shiny
