  1. For those who want to stay in the under $50 range for their encoder and authoring programs, I found a pretty good solution. I just rec'd my copy of TMPGenc DVD Author v.1.5 that I bought on ebay for about $40. Included with this is TMPGenc Source Creator, a watered down version of their well-regarded encoder. This is a BRAND NEW, BOXED VERSION , not some illegal warez or the like. It's just an older version so it's cheaper. I registered it fine, and have used the encoder once with very good results.

No, it's not the latest TDA version and no, the encoder doesn't have all the options of the stand-alone TMPGenc encoder, but overall it does do what I need done. The "Source Creator" encoder does have some filter settings for those who use them. The clip I processed looked best "as-is" so I didn't use them. Less choices for bitrate but it does do 2-pass for better quality.

Does the version you bought include the AC3 encoder? If not, it's no better than the other ten thousand progs. And OTHO, version 1.6 supports dual-layer authoring. If your serious about what your doing, go to their website and spend the extra 11 bucks to upgrade to 1.6.

  4. It's a sealed retail box from TMPG inc. just like software you'd but off the shelves. The install CD is a sealed, licenced CD. I don't see any more on Ebay right now though. There is TMPGenc Plus 2.5 available but at the price I see I'd certainly expect they are not legit.

I don't do any DL DVD authoring so that's not an issue.
