Does anyone know what the video button is for on the ilo dvdr04 remote control? I pushed it to see what'd happen and my recorder went nuts for a second then it locked up. I had to turn it off and on at the unit. The remote wouldn't respond. Needless to say, I'm not pushing that button again.

Hmmm,,,I'm sorry. I should've rephrased that first question. I know what the video button does. I was really just wondering if anyone else has had any problems when they push it like lock ups. It seems to me that the video button is just a waste of time. I'll never push it again.

  4. I'll try it and see if I have the same problem. I like the Ilo recorder but I don't like the remote. Most of the time I have to push the buttons several times to get it to work.

  6. Maybe if it is changing outputs and you do not have the appropriate connection, it gives the illusion of being 'locked up', when in fact it is only in another ouput mode. Just a thought.

I never use the button anyways. I'll just be careful and use a magnifying glass to see the buttons a bit closer. The remote is way too small and trying to hit one button is next to impossible. I might just grow my nails long and pointy so be more accurate. lol naaaa!!! I do like the machine though. I think it's the best one out there for the price.

  8. I think it works great for a low price recorder. I like it more than my Sansui. I don't like the remote and I wish the A/V would feed through without the unit being on. I'm using the RF in/out and and you get a hum through the tuner. I can't see leaving the recorder on when I'm not using it. Other than that I really like the unit.

This is a good recorder. I also have a cyberhome dvr1500 and it is now under my bed collecting dust. It bit the dust on me so now it can have all the dust it wants to bite. I don't like the tuner on my ilo though. I get a noise bar going across the screen plus a humming noise when I record from it. I have my vcr hooked up to the A-2 ports in the back and my dvd player hooked up to the A-1 ports in the front. I use the vcr's tuner for some serious recording but just for my girlfriend's soaps the ilo's is fine. I like the fact that I can make a copy of any movie I want whether it's from a dvd or tape. Of course I downloaded and installed the macro free hack. It was a must!! A lot of my old vhs tapes that I've bought over the years have cp.

Yeah..kupton,,I'm gonna pick one up probably this weekend. I was hoping that when I opened up the ilo box, I'd find a "normal size" remote instead of a pocket calculator. My girlfriend likes it but I don't.

  12. The universal remotes I have don't have codes for the Ilo. Do you know what universal remote will work?

  13. The ofa 9960 kameleon should work. You may have to use the learn feature of it at the moment. I heard ofa is working on codes for ilo remotes for there one for all remotes.

I picked up a "One for all" remote at Walmart for less than $20. It is a model URC 8810. It can be set to control 8 different devices. It doesn't have the ILO or Liteon codes built in. It does have a learning function where you hold the original remote up to the 8 in one and it learns the code from the original. I think there may be only 4 keys that you can have learn this way. But there is a key move function so I think you could reprogram all of the keys but it would be time consuming.

There are also 4 Macro keys that can be set to send multiple commands.

I haven't had much time to play with the remote. I have ordered a cable that allows programming the remote from a pc. The cable cost $14 and should be here today or tomorrow. The software for the pc is free. The nice thing about using the pc is that you can save your results. It looks like there is a lot to learn about this remote and you can learn all about it here. http://www.hifi-remote.com/jp1/help/

  16. This has been a problem for me but may help those who need a remote code for a universal remote:

My JVC XV-S30 DVD player's remote uses the same code as the ILO's. I learned this when I first got my ILO HD-04 (not sure if same remote as the non hard drive model) and hooked it up to my JVC dvd player. Every time I push a button on either remote it controls both devices. A pain for me, but maybe a solution for others.

THE JVC REMOTE CODE IS 5023 I BELIEVE.

I tried the JVC codes with the 8 in 1 model URC 8810 that I purchased at Walmart and they don't work. I have a LiteOn 5045, so the codes could be different than the ILO recorders.

Does anyone know if the codes for the ILO and LiteOn are identical?

My problem with the ILO remote (HD04) is every other press results in TWO presses. I keep selecting things I dont want!

The problem I have with universal remotes is when the original remote has specilized buttons (i.e. edit, guider). You can program these, but cant usually change the generic name on the universal, so you have to remember that, say butten "A" is edit when the remote is set to ILO mode, but that same button is "input" when set to operate another device.
    I don't have a bad attitude...

  19. There are programs that allow programming a PDA/Palm where you can name and design your own device pages. The problem with a PDA is it isn't very convenient to use. You probably wouldn't have your PDA powered on all of the time. You wouldn't be able to pick it up and do something quickly.

You're right about buttons that wont have the correct nomenclature. But I think there are enough buttons on the JP1 style of remotes where you could find a button that would be pretty close to what you need.

I've already ordered the programming cable and the remote. I'm kind of stuborn and will go down the same path of discouragement that everyone else has I'll let the list know if it works out OK. I'm probably going to be spending a lot of time learning a new programming language

I like the remote actually, well kind of. All i use are the OSD button, which is big enough to feel for it, and the pause and record and edit buttons which are ok as well.

Anyways, do all of you have problems with your front a/v inputs? Like a high pitched sound in the background of your recordings? I heard its like this b/c the display uses flurecent lights instead of led or something, and it interferes with the a/v inputs. If only I could get the front inputs to work, I would absolutely love this recorder. Instead I'm forced to switch the back inputs between my dvd player and vcr

I hear the high pitched noise as well. It seems to be a common nuisance with this unit. I also have my dvd player plugged in there. Too bad since the picture quality is beautiful. I still go ahead and use the front ports to record dvd to dvd though. The noise isn't bad enough to where I'd trash my copies. I wonder if there's a way to split off from the rear jacks with a switcher so one could just hit the switch instead of plugging/unplugging between vcr and dvd player.

There is, with a system selector I suppose. But thats the thing, its just another expense to have something that you shouldnt need in the first place. But I guess I may go that route as well.
