Just wondering, what would be the best way to compress an AVI produced by Fraps 2.5.1? I want to keep the quality the same, at least to the eye, and leave the resolution the same also. I've tried using VirtualDub along with the DivX codec, but that always produces a small file that looks like shit at the highest settings. I've used Dr. Divx, which also produces shit. XviD works alright, but I'm affraid that I'm not using that to its fullest ability, as a 1024 x 768 1 minute long video turns out to be 300 MB. I don't see how movies can be compressed using DivX, retaining a majority of their quality, and end up being only 700 or so MB. Anyways, no more ranting, thanks for any advice.

Ive used windows movie maker to compress the fraps file, so I could email it or send it through MSN. It was just a silly game movie (what else can you use fraps for?).
Just import it into Windows MM, and then dont bother editing (if you dont want to) and choose "save as movie file".
You then get several choices for saving formats, but you can just choose save for "my computer". After hitting next, when you get to a checked off "Best quality...." button, click more choices below it and the list will open up.
Then pick whats best for you. It has all the file sizes with the choice you pick too.
