  1. I'm going to buy an Epson R200 and therefor i also have to buy some printable discs. I have read lots of topics where people complain about playback problems on those printable discs. So I figure maybe it's worth to go the expensive way with Taiyo Yuden?

Problem is they cost 88€ for a 100pack that's more than twice as much as the Ritek G05 printables. Is it realy worth that much to get those Taiyo Yuden? Do they give me 100% success and playback? I also have an LG4040b that only burn in 4x, may that cause any problem?

:{DV 3139} Taiyo Yuden (8x) Full-Face Printables DVD-R in Heavy Duty Spindle Tubs of 100

I also saw that they are unbranded is all printable unbranded? I don't want to buy any fakes if I'm going to invest that much money in these disc!

  2. For that price, you better make sure that they are printables. As far as the price justification, are the discs just movie backups or personal videos? If it is the latter, then it is worth to purchase the TYs

As a person using the LG 4040b I can tell you; I've gone the Ritek/Prodisc/Generic IJP route and I'm fed-up with it. The "savings" has lead to more hours lost to quality-testing, re-burns, re-prints/re-burns than I care to count.

If the simplicity of burning, printing, playing appeals to you, go Taiyo.

If burning, disc scanning, player-verifying, re-burning, scanning, player verifying, printing, playing is more your speed, save money.

** Ritek G04 printables were the best of the cheap, but they have been superceded by the G05 and were far from 100%.

Heed the wails and moans from Coasterville..!

So have you tried Taiyo Yuden dvd-r (8x) printable? Do they burn in 4x?

Read that there was problem with LG 4040b and lots of 8x media for example Ritek G05 only burnt at 2,4x.

G04 have always worked great for me, but there seems to be very few G04 printables out there. Do you have any other printables that you have had good results with?

The DV 3138 order code you are quoting is an SVP (www.svp.co.uk/www.blankdicshop.co.uk) number. But those disks are unbranded TYs so have a plain silver top, no good for an R200 at all. Unbranded usually means no name on them.

To use with an R200 you need the DV 3139 with a plain white printable top. These are still unbranded in as much as they don't have the manufacturers name on them.

SVP guarantee that all the TY disks they sell are the genuine article and they also take back any duff ones and refund you purchase price. I had some stuff delivered by them that had been crushed in the post and they simply replaced it free of charge. You can't go far wrong.

If ordering from SVP and the discs are said to be unbranded Taiyo Yuden, they are legit (from what I have read). I don't order from them, as I am in North America.

GET THE TAIYO YUDEN! Believe me, they're worth it! Take it from someone who's gone the cheaper route and is now regretting it. TYs are the best - period. You never have to worry about making coasters or the disc going bad after awhile. I use the hub-printable white tops (8X).

Spoken like a true veteran.......totally agree. If you value your time, the extra pennies per disk is well worth the hours of testing, re-burning and cussing of using second class media (especially with printables). Stick with TY or Maxell printables.....A-1.

To burn 8x media with the 4040b you need the new A304 firmware. It's a hassle to install as the burner needs to be the only drive on IDE 2, set as master before you run the installer.

Without the new firmware the TY 8x will only burn 2x on the LG.

As for other printables, G04 were the best, but still far from 100%
