One of my favorite clips comes from a film that never made it to home video (neither VHS nor DVD), "The Dark at the Top of the Stairs." The timeframe of the film is the early part of the 20th Century as it was in Oklahoma state. Back then, some people had peculiar ideas about religion. I remember one such belief (because my stepdad subscribed to it and spoke of it often) about the Catholic Church ... and the film deals with it in a good way.

The scene sets up this way. Eve Arden (Aunt Lottie) begins the diatribe about the Catholics ... continuing even as her husband scoffs at her crazy ideas. Finally, after she finishes up, Robert Preston (Rubin Flood) storms out of the family kitchen to tell Lottie what he thinks of her ideas ... in a way Lottie cannot mistake.

Here's the clip in 150k RealVideo format.

  2. ...get a big piece of tape, and put it over your mouth, because you're too ignorant to live...

    Excellent

Here's a very short clip, compressed for dialup, it's only 65k.
From the movie, "Don't be afraid of the dark".

  3. Seems nobody else has any favourites, or they can't figure out how to cut the clip they want, and then compress for the web.

In "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother" I love it when they break into song sing "HOP HOP HOP like a kangaroo!" There are a whole many more lines in the movie that are hilarious.

Believe it or not, there's actually a "collector's edition" of "Amazon Women On The Moon" available on DVD for $13.48 at Amazon.com (the film where that "Video Pirates" clip came from). I've never seen it before but heard it was kind of an unsuccessful attempt by Robert Weiss (and others) to recapture the spirit of "Kentucky Fried Movie."

Question ... is the movie worth renting?

I've got it. The opening sketch with Asenio Hall is hilarious.

Yes, the tie in the disposal and everything. He just gets abused. I also love the scene at the hospital with the lost baby. Classic. I think I'll used that clip and place it at the beginning of all my DVD back-ups to replace the FBI warning.

"Jeremiah was a Bullfrog. {deh deh deh} A very good friend of mine. {deh deh deh}......................" Excellent early appearance by David Allen Greer as a blackman born without soul and many other cameos by actors large & small. Even has Steve Gutenberg, Rip Taylor, Lou Jacobi, Michelle Pfeiffer, Joe Pantoliano, and many more.

I was looking at the IMDB.com info on the film and noticed that Bela Lugosi (or a clip of him) appears in it ... from a film he did in 1933 (uncredited). A little trivia. When Lugosi died, he requested he be buried in the cape he made famous in the 1931 film, "Dracula." Fellow horror icons, Vincent Price and Peter Lorre went to the funeral and, when viewing Lugosi's body in the casket, Lorre turned to Price and whispered, "Do you think we should drive a stake through his heart just in case?"

Anyhoo, I think I'll rent it. And, if it's good overall, Amazon is selling used copies for just under $10. I already have "Kentucky Fried Movie" on VHS (ugh, capture/burn pending). It'll be interesting to see if "Amazon Women..." measures up.

Some parts are worth seeing - my favorite is the one with the "invisible" man...look here comes the invisible man again

Years ago when old-time-radio shows were transcribed while being performed live, there's supposed to be a Lone Ranger episode with the following scene in it. Two desperados are camped out and gloating over their caper when the sound of horse hooves is heard. One of the desperados interrupts the other, saying, "Wait ... I think I hear a white horse coming." There's about a three second pause, followed by the same actor saying, "Who wrote that line?"

The movie's sounding better and better. I'll check it out soon.
