  1. I don't know if anyone can help, but when using Womble to edit adverts out of MPEG2 files created with an Adpatec video capture card, sometimes the results are fine, and sometimes there are severe artifacts/macroblocking on almost every scene change. I hadn't made any changes to the encoding, just trimmed the ads, and in one case, I recaptured the show and tried again and the results were fine on the recapture. It's really annoying because it's distracting at every scene change, and if it's something live off air, I can't recapture it. I've searched the web and can't find anyone with the same problem - any help gratefully accepted...

  2. I don't know if this will help, have you tried VideoreDo it has a 21 Day trial period available, Just download, request the trial key to allow over 30 minute files. IE without the key it truncates anything over 30 minutes when saving the edited result. (Ask me How I know!)

    http://www.drdsystems.com/VideoReDo/ for downloads and
    http://www.videoredo.net/msgBoard/ for message board.

You can get the latest version from the message board, adds support for .ts and more.

They gave me good support even before I bought. It'll do frame accurate cuts for you. It'll re-encode around the cuts. One nice feature I found is the ability to either cut or it's inverse, IE Invert All Cuts. SO I can either cut out the parts I don't want or cut out the parts I do want. If I wanted to cut out one clip for inclusion elsewhere I'd mark the part I want (one edit), Invert all cuts and save. Vs Cut both before and after then save whats left. Just a little more efficient but what the heck I'll save time where I can. It can rezise the GOPs if needed and has a QuickStream Fix that does more or less what Wombles mpeg fixer does but more control over GOP size.

Anyway it's free for 21 days and should do what you want, therefore worth a try. And even what I liked was support for the trial version.

    Good Luck
    Roger

P.S. I'd like to here if it helped, Just curious

Yes, I've seen the same as well. Obviously, you've downloaded the lastest version ? I believe there was an update in December.

Also, check out TMPGenc's (Pegasys) MPEG Editor. It too is good.

  4. I don't know why you are having that problem with Womble mpg vcr but I agree you should try VideoReDo. It's actually much easier to use because it has two sliders. One moves quickly through the movie and the other moves more slowly.

If you have the same macro blocking problem with VideoReDo you'll have to look into how these files are being encoded.

  5. Thanks for the tips - tried VideoReDo and it's handled all the files with no problems so far, including the ones that Womble couldn't. Only problem is that sometimes it outputs files with audio one frame shorter than video, which Encore doesn't like, so I've had to go back and trim a few extra frames off. Oddly, tried using Womble to change the audio format on a file that I'd used VideoReDo to edit, and although Womble wasn't supposed to be making any changes to the video at all, the end result was exactly the same - macroblocking at almost every change of camera angle.

  6. I saw this behavior "severe artifacts/macroblocking" with Womble Mpeg2VCR occasionally as well. In addition, when I authored the files with TMPGEnc DVD Author I would get audio synch problems occuring immediately after the "severe artifacts/macroblocking". Strangely, when looking at the mpeg file before authoring, I saw the "severe artifacts/macroblocking" but the audio was still in synch. This occurred with the version of Womble Mpeg2VCR I downloaded in December. I went back to an older version (June or July 2004, I don't recall which) and the problem no longer occurred.

  8. Cuttermaran input format is mpv,m1v,m2v....
if my video is mpg ,how?????????

  9. Demux it in tmpgenc's mpeg tools (or one of the free demuxing tools in the Tools list here).
When you import the m2v, Cuttermaran will automatically import the audio track with the same name, and cut both at the same time.
It retains perfect sync, no matter where you cut.

  13. Sheesh. Sorry. I'm so used to working with elementary streams.
Just demux the damn file, then import the m2v.
Cuttermaran will then automatically import the mpa.

Womble ONLY re-encodes what you edit (effects, fades, etc), the GOP of the cut/splice, or what you command in the save dialog.

Aside from this, macroblocking is not possible, as it is not touching that part of the data. It merely passes it through to the new file. Untouched.
