I just got turned down from a $10 dollar an hour position that I was perfectly qualified for and they told me I did not meet the qualifications.

They needed at least 1 year tech support experience and 4 years hands on experience.

I have been building and repairing computer systems since 2000 which gives me five years experience and I have done phone and e-mail support in the same amount of time.

I am getting tired of people not reading my resume and telling me I am not qualified when I am.

    <End of Rant.>

I hear ya. I've been through that before. What's even worse is when you find out later that the person who got the position has 'experience' but doesn't know a damn thing. My favorite is when it's some guy with certification who can't even build a PC.

My favorite is loosing the job to blatant nepotism.

Makes me all warms and tingling inside.

Luckily I am doing pretty good right now.

  6. I think some of the problem is that many jobs are filled before the ads even go out. They know who they want for the job but must advertise it due to company policy.

Bazooka, that really sucks man. I feel for 'ya.
I've been out of work for 6 months. I've been a printer for 16 years. When I was laid off I was getting $26 per hr. That's not TOO bad in NY. I just gave in and applied for a $10 per hr. entry level position because we have a baby coming and need SOMETHING! I was turned down for being OVERQUALIFIED! WHAT THE HELL IS THAT? ARE THEY AFRAID I CAN DO MY JOB??????

I know what you mean. I have been told that I am overqualified for a $6 per hour job at Target. That was a couple of years ago.

  9. That seems a very low wage for a position that requires a level of skill and expertise. With the current exchange rate that is just about minimum wage here.

As for the over qualified thing. They are afraid that you are just after the job as a stop gap until you can find something better. then they are back where they started readvertising.

Sometimes you have to tailor your resume to the lesser jobs so they don't think you're just there for some quick cash til you find something better.

I applied as a manager for a Wal-Mart, just as a Fluke joke. They liked my resume and wanted to have an interview with me. I told them that I accepted a position with Target, that offered more money. In actuality I still work for the financial institution I've been with for the past 5+ years.

Makes you wonder how people that can't read resumes got their jobs.

Well there's always the remote possibility that maybe they just don't like you.

  18. I hate job hunting. It's a bitch to find a half decent job that can fit around my studies.

Potential employers are so lazy as well. I saw an ad hiring for nights and weekends at a video store which said "enquiries by email welcome". It had been a week since the ad was posted so I emailed the guy asking if the position had been filled and I'm still waiting 2 days later for a response.

That feeds back into the lack of courtesy by employers rant of mine. They are more than happy to leave you hanging.

I applied for a part-time job at Brookstone once just as a filler and the manager said she would call me with an answer by the weeks end. Never called so I called her. She said she was waiting for an answer from her supervisor. Called at least two more times and got the same answer. On the 4th call or so I got the so-called super and she was very nice said she was pulling my file as we spoke and would look it over with an answer for me in the next day or so. Never heard from her. Called again and told them how ******* worthless they were and that I didn't need their shitty ass job anyway.

I don't know about in your areas but around here the trucking industry is always looking for drivers. Most of the mid-level companies offer on the job training which will get you a CDL and some experience. Within 2 or 3 years you could be making $30,000+. Of course if that's not your boat..... Just a suggestion.

I drive 18 wheelers and it is safe to say that if you have a CDL with a good driving record, "You will always have a job."

Minimum Wage here is £4.85 or $9.13.

Being overqualified for a job is just as bad to an employer. However, the easiest way to get a job that you are overqualified for is via a temp agency. I've done it. The place you go to work for doesn't know what your qualifications are and the temp agency doesn't care as long as the client likes you.
