  1. Hi, I was wondering if someone could help me out with my laptop. its a ibm thinkpad a22m. the laptop keeps freezing on me and sometimes it crashes. after that, I go to restart the laptop but sometimes it wont power up, just the fan turns on, it takes a few tries before i actually get it running again. I can spend 30min trying to get the laptop to startup.

so what i'm thinking is maybe their could be a power issue or since I only have 64mb (i know its sad, but thats my univ. for you) so that may also be a problem as well. I dont think it could be the hdd because i got that replaced in the last semester the laptop was under warranty. so any suggestions on what the problem is, i'll give more info if needed, or suggestion of what I can do would be great.

    thanks

  2. Could it be overheating?
Do you use it in your lap?

  3. nope, no post codes or beeps. the only activity i get on the screen is the
normal startup routine, IBM logo>Starting Windows>Windows2000>then goes and loads up my settings like normal.

havent tried booting with a system disk. next time i can get the laptop on again i'll to go into the bios, i'll let you know what i find

i thought about the overheating issue i need to look into that. i have the laptop on a desk.

    thanks

EDIT: I got it on , i checked the bios and reads the hdd.

Even for W2000 64MB is not enough.
Boot problems, if they are not hardware are usually OS. Corrupted OS or driver files are common culprits.
Add more memory or dump some programs. Maybe even reinstall the OS.
Virus and trojan scans may help if you have been connecting to the internet.
How much space do you have left on your harddrive?
Other things, make sure you have all the latest drivers for your laptop.

  5. Video display drivers are often a culprit for problems. Get the latest drivers and check the forums for your video display for similiar problems.

If it runs fine the first couple of minutes and then crashes under intense cpu usage-sounds like heat.

I had this problem with my laptop also. The fan was replaced and the problem was gone.

  7. @redwudz, I have only a quater of the disk space being used, i was thinking of adding more memory but i'm hesitant since the cost was high.

thats exactly what happens but it will even freeze and/or crash as soon as my desktop loads up. so i'm probably looking at an overheating issue then, I was afraid of that, which is why I seeked opinions here before I bought any memory for it. well, it was going to be retired after this semester, I guess it just started early.

Thanks again everyone for your input
