  1. I was just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem as I have with my computer telling me that I have no media in the drive...it seems to only happen with the new DVD's like RE2...I have the original version but I cannot watch it on my computer...I only have a DVD burner but it works just fine on all my other DVD's in my collection. When I put the RE2 DVD in the drive it changes the name of the drive from DVD Ram to CD Drive and says no media found. Is this perhaps a new kind of protection on the dvd's??? Now I know I posted about this problem before but I just want to know if anyone else has come across this same problem.

Did you end up buying a DVD-ROM ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

  4. Although I have no ideas as to why it happens, I wanted to post and let you know that I encounter that problem quite frequently as well. Usually, ejecting the dvd quickly and then re-inserting it seems to do the trick. In a few cases I 've had to reboot the computer but this is truly rare.

  5. I have a friend with a laptop with this very same problem although their laptop doesn't seem to want to play any dvd anymore. It's a NEC-5100a I believe , gonna have to look into that. But whenver I stick a retail DVD into the drive it just will not play. Without any disc in the drive it is listed as a DVD-R drive but as soon as a DVD is inserted and initialized the drive changes to a CD-R drive in Windows Explorer mind you; not actually suggesting that it physically changes to a CD-R drive just what monstercaper was saying in that Windows sees it as a CD-ROM drive after a DVD is inserted into it. My friend claims that it used to play DVDs for the first couple of days she's had the laptop. The drive will ready CDs just fine; but I have yet to try a data DVD disc or a DVD+R/DVD-R/DVD+RW/DVD-RW type of disc inside of the drive. Calls to Dell yields all sorts of laugable responses either automated responses or otherwise; they've ranged from Windows reformat and reinstall to BIOS updates to CD/DVD drive diagnostic boot discs,......etc Dell: "UHHHH let's just say something else and hope they'll stop calling"

    monstercaper,
On a somewhat related note do you have that Interactual(spelling?) software installed?

My friend is that typical just click anything that pops up just to get rid of it type of computer user and I'm assuming that's how she got that software onto her laptop.
