  1. The sound card that I am using is Creative Live 5.1.
I found that in the recording properties I can only select one source,
but I want to record from two sources (Mic and Wave) simultaneously.
I guess this soundcard just doesn't support this function.

Anyway, can someone suggest a not-too-expensive soundcard that can record from multiple sources at the same time??

I prefer some well known brands like Creative, but any suggestion is welcomed.

You could get one of these for only $50...

Plug straight into your sound card.
    Works great.

Using a mixer is not very convenient because one of the source (Wave) is generated by a realtime voice program within the computer. If I was to use a mixer, I would have to do an output to the mixer then connect the mixer back to the computer, quality will no doubt degrade a little.
    Anyway, thanks for your input~

Why not just record the vocal and mix it in the PC ?

This is for my friend's net radio station. I am her technical assistance.
She wants to broadcast live audio from her mic (Mic) and Skype (Wave) for accepting calls from callers.

She is already getting an average of 30-40 listeners for her shows even when there is currently very little interactivity with the listeners. It will help her a lot if she can start accepting calls.

  7. With some soundcards you can set the record to the soundcard mixer (whatever you have plying under the playback options), so you have the soundcard playback set to play both mic & Wave, and then set the recorder to use the mixer as its source, you should get both (if the soundcard & software support it). Can use the same for recording streaming audio.

The problem is that she doesn't want to hear her own voice from her headphones. If she turns down the playback volume of the Mic or just mute it, the "What U Hear" option would not capture the voice from her mic.

I just find that the SoundBlaster Audigy series support a standard called ASIO which allows multi-channel recording for ASIO compatible software. What I don't understand is the "ASIO compatible software" part. What if the recording software doesn't know anything about ASIO? Then can I select multiple channel recording in the soundcard's mixer and make it transparent to the recording software???
