I have just started attempting to rip from DVD to AVI. I have tried using DVDx to open the DVD from my D: drive but get the following error messages:
ASPI not available, DVDx won't be able to unlock DVD drive and read file bigger than 2GB. (Check for APSI driver update at www.adaptec.com)
Do you want to continue without ASPI?
...then this error straight after:
Unable to read from "D:\VIDEO_TS\vts_01_1.vob"
...and then this error straight after that:
MPEG2Dec: Error during decoder initialisation
I have tried downloading the laters ASPI driver from www.adaptec.com but it still gives me that error message. Any help? Cheers

I had this problem and had to go to adaptec for an aspi driver. No big deal just download it . But do look at there instalation notes it was not as simple as unZipping and clicking on the exe file; you have to add a space and the operating system spacific suffix to get a proper install from the run command of the start menue.
You can check for a proper install evidence after with another diognostic exe in the unziped package. It will list the new updated file and the date you installed it.
Hang in there.
