  1. For those recording with the Panasonic DMR-E55, what media have you had success with? What media has not worked (and how did you know it was bad?) ??

  2. Most cheap off brand media (read shop4tech) does not work. When it is bad it will start to record and shut down within 2 minutes, sending your machine into a loop of death that can only be ended through numerous resets and power down. I have had very good luck with Prodisc S03 (now hard to find) and Ritek G04 (now troublesome) I would guess that Ritek G05 would work and it is very reliable. One way you can tell if the media will work is to burn a title to it. I have always found this was a reliable way to find out. Also, Rima.com is very good about sending a sample if you want to try something out. I have yet to try TY media; if I found that it worked I would stay with it.
One user reports Verbatim works well, they are on sale at Amazon for another week.

Still a few bugs in the system...

  3. I have had good luck with TDK and Sony media, but bad luck with Memorex.

  4. You can use Panasonic media.

I prefer Accu disks. They are like $35 per hundred.

  5. I have had mostly bad menus now (always good video and audio) with Verbatim Datalife Plus, Princo and now Panasonic (!!!!???) DVD-R 4x media. I have ordered Ridata G04 as somebody suggested. I'm ready to toss this machine out the window... excpet for the fact that the recording is such high quality from my analog video camera and it seems like I am close to solving this menu writing problem. If it's truly this picky about media, I'd think Panasonic would make sure it's compatible with it's own media!!

  6. I have had great results with Fuji 8x disks. But make sure they are the Japanese version. I found them at a local wholesale club, spindle of 50 for $19.95. I have gone through about half of them and have not had a single bad one with my DMR-E55.
