Does anyone know if the Liteon 5001 will play DVD's from the USA/NTSC

Yes. It will. The 5001 can be made region free with a simple remote hack. It can also be made to ignore copy protection and gain a 3 hour recording mode by using a firmware update. Check the DVD HACKS section of this site for more details and check out this other website:

LiteOn makes "international" players pretty much. Only the tuner is hardware set to a certain region.
PAL/NTSC is not the same as region coding. But the machines plays both NTSC and PAL and region coding can be disabled.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)
