  1. My DVD player seems to be having problems successfully at all recognizing a perfectly working DVD is even in the drive. If I put one in the drive, first 2 or 3 times it won't even admit that there was a DVD inserted (i.e. Windows will show that the drive is empty). By about 3 or 4 times it will finally lock onto the DVD just fine. Once I take it out, have to go through that all over again.

Strange thing. As long as I leave that same DVD in the drive, even over many days and even with several system shut downs and power ups, the drive will never lose recognition of the DVD. But once I take it out, have to go back through the 3 times inserting/ejecting thing again.

    Anyone recognize what that is?

  2. Can it be assumed we are talking about DVD R discs, and can it also be assumed that you have checked on the info regaring DVD players on the left of this message?

IMO it sounds like your drive's laser might be on the way out - either that or it doesn't get along real well with the media you are using.
    If in doubt, Google it.
