Hi ffmpegX users!
I've just bought a Samsung stand alone dvd/divx player and noticed that It can't read divx encoded with ffmpeg MPEG4 video codec but can flawlessy read divx encoded with mencoder MPEG4 video codec.
I also noticed that the info displayed by ffmpegX for the two kind of files differs only for the audiocodec sample value which is 0 for ffmpeg files and 1 for mencoder files.
The point is i've got a dozen of divx encoded from TV show with ffmpeg video codec and I would like to know, if it's possible, the fastest way to make them readable to my stand alone player avoiding to encode again each of them with the mencoder videocodec.I also noticed that telefims are jagged if encoded with mencoder even in the deinterlace option in checked.
Any advice would be appreciate.
Thanks

I've read carefully the stand alone player manual. It talks about mpeg4 simple profile compatibility: how can I check if the ffmpeg or mencoder engine encode divx with this profile or another?
Cheers

I went through a scientific approach. I acquired from the A/D converter two minutes of a tv show in standard DV PAL format and then encoded with these four quick preset of ffmpegX :
XivDffmpeg mpeg4, 496x368, 25.00 fps. AUDIO: mp3, 48000 Hz, stereo, 128 kb/s
XivDmencoder mpeg4, 496x368, 25.00 fps. AUDIO: mp3, 48000 Hz, stereo, 128 kb/s
DivXffmpeg mpeg4, 496x368, 25.00 fps. AUDIO: mp3, 48000 Hz, stereo, 128 kb/s
DivXmencoder mpeg4, 496x368, 25.00 fps. AUDIO: mp3, 48000 Hz, stereo, 128 kb/s
Then I burned them on a cd-rw and tried on my Samsung DVD-divx player, with these results:
XivDffmpeg: very good looking no jagged profile and very few artifacts
XivDmencoder: completely jagged
DivXffmpeg: only a blue ang green blocky screen for few seconds then playback hungs up.
DivXmencoder: completely jagged
Again the only differences among the divx files is the value of sample audiocodec whic is 0 for mencoder profiles and 1 for ffmpeg profiles, and quite odd ffmpegX file info states that for XivD preset the VIDEO codec is divx and that for divx preset the VIDEO codec is Xivd.
So it looks like with a Samsung divx capable player to be worth using xvidffmpeg profile to burn divx: hope this can be helpful.

I've talked about this problem witha friend of mine who has a litte more experience on this stuff than me. He is a PC user and passed the file in a program called virtualdub changing the preload time of audio track and the resulting file was readable by the Samsung Player! Is there any tool to change the preload time in ffmepgX?
Thanks again.
