Can anyone tell me if there is a difference between the Philips DVD players DVP642/17 and DVP642/37??

642/17 - orig FW 0449
642/37 - orig FW 0531

the only difference is the version of FW you got inside when you buy it
but in these days the FW is 1109 orig or 2.1 by Huffyk

They have different firmwares on the website. You can download 1109 for the DVP642/17 and a seperate 1109 for the DVP642/37.

Yes, the PDF file says that the firmware is good on either player, but why would they then go ahead and host 2 seperate files with 2 seperate file names?...

I'm assuming it's because while producing the DVP642/37 they made a small hardware change to the player which may conflict using the same firmware as the DVP642/17, so they didn't want to take the chance, and released a firmware based around each player.
