  1. I wonder when a manufacturer will put on the market a DVD-Recorder with a Dual Layer Multi-formats DVD writer and a minimum 80 GB hard disk...

If anyone has any (reliable...) info about that, please let us know...

The strange thing is that we can't get a new DVD writer to put in a computer which is not DL and -R/+R...

So, are they really manufacturing obsolete product just to have us buy a new DVD-recorder in 1 year?

    What a complicated world...

  2. Capitalizing on Sony's DVD recorder leadership, among the 2005 HDMI product to debut is the RDR-HX715 DVD recorder with a hard disc drive and HDMI output. The unit incorporates a 160GB hard drive and broad media compatibility with DVD+R/+RW/-R/-RW and +R double layer disc compatibility for larger recording capacity.

The RDR-HX715 will be available in September for about $700.

The unit you referred to was not a standalone recorder, it's just a DVD burner plus MPEG2 encoder. It can be called at best as a video/audio capturing device with no HDD and editing capability in itself.

Standalone recorders normally lag at least one year behind PC DVD burners in terms of features simply because video recording on standalones is much more complicated, think in terms of multi-session vs. single-session on a PC plus the effects of editing on the file structure.

Now that 4X DVD-R DL standard is also coming along this year, we would probably expect DVD±R DL recording feature on standalones during the second half of next year as the earliest.

    Hi,

    What's exactly "HDMI" ?

Does it allow connection to a PC ?

    Thanks,
