OK, I've been able to connect to different servers and even been able to download small files (no more than 3MB). I understand that the window to the right is the remote place. But what I don't understand is what the right window represents; does it represent all the folders that are on that particular server, or does it represent one remote pc that is connected to that particular server I hope that you guys understand what I'm asking, I'm new to FTP

Within an FTP client (CuteFTP 4.0) How do you search the entire server that you are connected to for a specific file?

How do you serach for FTP sites or servers that may contain what you are looking for?

I haven't found anything that I'm interested in; The files that I did download load were files I use as a test download. There must be something that I'm doing wrong. I've heard so many people express satisfaction when using FTP; I just assume that my lack of success is something that I'm not doing

as to the whole left window - right window, if you could post a screen shot, it would help - many FTP programs are customizable, so what is left for you might be bottom for me, etc.

as for searching an entire server, you are probably not going to have access; you will have access to the /pub directories, but anything you don't have passwords or permissions to is going to be blocked.

there are ftp-specific search engines - oth.net is the one I can remember off the top of my head.

generally I don't search ftp servers; I do conventional searches and use FTP clients when required (when a search hit turns up an FTP site).

depends on what you're looking for - what *are* you looking for?

First off, thanx for your reply; I didn't think I'd ever recieve one

I really don't know how to do the whole thing dealing with hosting pics off apps and then posting them to a forum. Sorry

Actually, I was just performing a regular multimedia search.

    Can you help?

he window on the left is more than likely your computer folders/files. by changing the dir on the left your telling the file were to DL too, or if you are uploading to the FTP that is were you select which files you want to upload to the remote FTP. If it is a ratio FTP I think you will first need to find the specific dir that the remote FTP uses for all of the files being uploaded to it, Usually a dir called UPLOAD or something like that.

open your FTP app, press the "Print Scrn" key (upper right on your keyboard, above the "Insert" key), open up MS Paint, and Edit->Paste into a new file. save as .jpg

when you come back to post, follow the instructions for inserting an image....

as for "how to search and find things", that's another matter entirely. Some things will pop right out, some will take patience and deep digging, and some things just aren't out there... depends on what you are looking for.

Well actually, I made that comment based upon me posting this same question at two other forums two days ago and still no reply.

Thanx to you, I've concluded that using FTP wouldn't be a first choice app to search and download multimedia files.

Thanx for the post a screenshot tip
