    What are VCR lines?

    Are you talking about Macrovision?

Also you want to alter an already made DVD?

Your question is strange and you don't give details.

Most of the big guys aren't even going to attempt to help you. You have 47 views of this post and I am the only person that has posted a reply.

Your question doesn't make any sense and you didn't give any details. Like how this DVD was created. Capture Card? Standalone DVD recorder? What was the source? VHS? Home movie? Studio Movie?

What do you want to do?

  3. I thought it was a pretty simple question. I got a dvd from a friend that was converted from a vhs tape. The dvd has vcr lines at the bottom of the video. If you've ever seen a dvd made from a vhs source then you know what vcr lines are. I'm looking for a program to eliminate those lines,

I have seen and made a few never had "lines" and it looks like the other 50 people that have looks at your post don't know what you are asking either.
    snappy phrase

    I don't know what you're talking about.

  5. The source or what type of video isn't important, i just added that to explain a little. I'm just looking for a program to crop the picture on an already burnt dvd. Just to trim the edges a little bit.

@ Comos - Post a screen print. How big are these "lines"? Are you going to be watching the DVD on TV or PC? If both, which one primarily?

If it's the "lines" I'm thinking of, they're only a few lines of resolution high and will (should) be hidden behind the overscan area of the TV - i.e. the moulding that holds the TV tube hides some of the picture, including these "lines".

What doppletwo was trying to say was be a bit more specific with the information you're providing. Don't leave things open to assumption or interpretation...

"dvd has vcr lines at the bottom of the video" in a vcr capture means the vcr wasn't properly adjusted.

    All tv transfers have lines

You should have asked how to crop crap from the bottom of a poor vcr capture and saved us guessing.

Most commercial video suite packages will do it with video quality tradeoff plus (minutes to hours of processing).

Technical term is "scale and translate". May be called expand or crop.

This link tells how to use virual dub to crop video files while re encoding.

Man that was like pulling teeth.

All you wanted to do was crop the bottom of the video.

  10. I'm not sure how to do a screen shot. I'm just wanting to know if there is a program that can trim a little bit of video off the edges without having to fully convert it?

    Screenshot:

    1. Play the DVD on your PC using WinDVD or PowerDVD (or similar, as long as it can take screen shots). Both these apps have this facility - there's a button in one of them that looks like a photo (stills) camera. Use that.

    2. Capture a good example of what you're trying to get rid of. Best saved as a JPEG.

    3. Upload following instructions just above the "Preview" and "Submit" buttons when posting a reply (not "Quick Reply").

That was my initial post. Just needed to crop the dvd. Thanks guys. I didn't feel that specs were real important here since i just need a program to crop the already made dvd. Didn't mean for it to be picked apart. Thanks again.

  16. the whole point of me posting was not to have to re encode the video.

  17. You can crop with VirtualDub,TMPGEnc,Ulead VideoStudio, etc but you will have to reencode and probably lose quality.

  18. So, nothing without having to totally re encode eh? Thats no good. Thanks for the replys guys.

You should ask for what you want.

I got fired from Madam CLEO's Psychic Hotline for not being psychic.

No you have to re encode. Or jsut watch it on a TV. or put tape across the bottom of your monitor.

Sorry I am through with this thread.
