big ones
"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
I got a chance to compare an Airbus 340 (their large 4-engine 300+ passenger model) and a 747 last winter. We took a 747 from NYC to Frankfurt and an Airbus 340 from Frankfurt to NYC. Both were Lufthansa.
No contest. The Airbus was comfortable, had plenty of legroom in coach, plenty of washrooms.
The 747's seat pitch had us crammed in with our knees jammed into the seats in front of us. The seats were so close front to back that we couldn't stand up in front of our seats because the unreclined seat-back of the seat in front was so close. It was the worst plane trip any of us had ever had
After that trip we were all Airbus fans -
It all depends on the configuration that the airline selects.
I've never had a problem with the Qantas or Air New Zealand 747s. -
Who makes the decision as to how many seats are put on a plane? Is it the manufacturer or the airline that specs it out?
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore. -
Airlines pull seats on and off all the time but Airbus
make sure even when at capactity there is more room
than Boeing.
