  1. Newbie here,
Can someone please explain step-by-step how to use the Merge & Cut function in TMPGEnc. I have movies I need to burn to 2 cds vice 1 due to length. I've played around with the MPEG tools with no luck.
    Thanks

  4. Oz,

There's really nothing to TMPGEnc.'s Merge and Cut. I guess your looking for a way to cut your clip, right? First, select your "type" and click "add" to load your clip and click "Edit" to cut your clip. The range is the counter for where your clip would start and end. Straight forward as it seems, enter the time where you want to start your clip and the time you want it to end. Click "ok". Then for Output, enter a file name and the destination.

Isn't that easy!!! Come'on you have to try explore it for yourself. World is FULL of exploration Jordan

  5. I'm having trouble with the audio going slightly out of sync with TMPGEnc's Merge and Cut.
I'm using an AIW Radeon to save directly to .mpg file, then using TMPGEnc to cut commercials out. The audio is going out only on the 2nd half hour of the video.
Is there anything that I should be checking?

Dondo, I experienced that problem too.
What I was doing was capturing TV shows at a high-bitrate MPEG1 (I/O Magic PC PVR card w/PowerVCRII), converting the files to VCD-compliant MPEG files, and then cutting out the commercials. The resulting clips were then out of sync.

The way I fixed the problem, was to edit out the commercials first, and then convert the high-bitrate MPEG1 files to VCD-compliant clips.

    Hope this helps.

  8. Thanks sracer.
I guess my difference from your method is that I'm recording directly into VCD compliant MPEG1.
I've been trying to make it as easy as possible, so I record (1 hour), cut (10 min) and put on CD (3 min)..

I paid a little more attention to the settings in Merge and Cut, and I noticed also that if I didn't put my edit points on exact seconds (no decimal) then my video and audio file during the cut were not exactly the same.
So far, everything has been good.

  9. sracer, you say "high-bitrate" mpg, how high? What bitrate are you capturing in, and what resolution before converting to VCD compiant?

mjquilly, I capture at 3000kbps, 352x240 resolution. I find that the MPEG capture of the I/O Magic card is not up to par with what I'm accustomed to with the Dazzle DVC (USB version). But if I capture at 3000kbps, cut out commercials, and encode using the VCD template, I find that I get fantastic results.
