Roxio - Can't preview

I just started using Easy CD&DVD Creator 6 Basic. When I use DVD builder, I can't seem to preview much of anything, including the Roxiointro.mpg that is a default intro. All I get is a message that says "error playing movie". The only thing that I seem to be able to preview is the Windows Movie Maker Sample file which is a wmv file. If I drag DVD files onto my workarea everything seems to work fine -- the file gets ripped to a vob, it puts a thumbnail on the workarea, I can even burn a DVD which comes out perfect! I just can't preview or edit anything. My PC is a Dell Pentium 2.4ghz, with 640 megs of RAM and about 20 gigs of space on the hard drive, running Windows XP.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Have you installed the latest version of directx? If not got the MS site and get it.

Don't know if that will solve your problem but it's probably the best place to start.

Just installed Directx and it seems to be getting better. All of a sudden I can preview slide shows and can preview all sorts of MPG's and AVI's. Oddly enough, I still can't preview Roxiointro.mpg and when I try to preview a VOB, again nothing happens. Just to make sure that I'm doing it right, I drag the VOB file onto my workspace and Roxio takes care of ripping it and then I can preview, right?
