I'm trying to make a backup using DVDShrink. I get an error saying that its too big for the disc and that I should use auto compression or disable some audio streams. I have it set to auto compression, but it's still telling me the output file size will be around 4,800 mb. I tried to set a manual compression ratio, but it won't let me compress it any more. The auto compression ratio is at 58%. Is there a limit on how much you can compress? I'm not concerned too much about the quality. I just want it to fit on one disc with all the original menus and extras. Any suggestions?

De-select any unnecessary audio streams, shrink twice if neessary. Yes, your version has a limit on shrinking.

Remove one of the unneeded audio tracks. Or if you really need a 1:1 backup goto DL.
But you just cannt have everything in DVD5.

Unfortunately all the audio streams are the same type and all are english. I can't tell which one I might want to de-select. Is there a version without a compression limit? or is that just stupid? I will try to shrink twice.... good idea!

  5. You should be able to compress a littler lower than 58% w/ Shrink.
As far as the audio streams just start the main movie and right click in the preview pane and select the different audio selections. You may find a Director's commentary you dont want or there may be ac3-5.1 and ac3 2.0, one being DD5.1 and the other DD2.0. You can choose as both are not usually needed.

  6. Not sure why you can't get more than 58% with Shrink, I have seen as low as 50% before. While it's available, I don't like it. I go in and use a custom ratio to pull down the values of the menu and special features so the movie quality actually increases. You didn't list which version of Shrink you were using, but if it's older you may want to update.

I assume you have gone into Re-author, in which case why haven't you done "custom ratio" instead of "automatic compression" ? That should allow you to compress down to 40%

Just do DVD shrink again, or if you want to try it with one pass, maybe try DVD2One.

you can preview audio streams by right clicking on the video preview window, selecting the stream, then hitting stop > play and then click on the timeline further into the movie to find out what the dialogue is

DVDShrink will only go as low as it thinks it can. It will vary from DVD to DVD and title to title
