I have some really old audio files such as MIDIs and SPCs. There is some silence at the start of the MIDI so I want to delete it. However, I am inexperienced in editing MIDI files so I want to convert it to WAV so I can edit better because I can see the wavelengths. Does anyone know of a free program that can do this?

And as for SPCs, I also want to convert that to WAVs. I don't fully understand what SPCs are but when I play them in Winamp, they seem a big buggy such as lots of silence, etc.

Midi isn't an audio file. It's a "script" file that tells electronic instruments (including computer audio cards) what notes and what instrument to play.
There are lots of MIDI to WAV converters (Try this).
SPC seems to be spchcomp format - couldn't find any converters for this format. Remember -Google is your friend!

Then is there no way to edit midis easily? I have already tried that Google search and of those first few, I downloaded and installed. Either I don't understand how they convert to WAV or they convert to WAV but they limit only 60-seconds of conversion.

MIDIs can be edited using a MIDI editor - A Sequencer.
But I think you ought to be a musician to try that task.

  5. I played the MIDI file with WMP and recorded analog using Audacity or www.cdwave.com ,I then had a WAV ready to be edited.
Converting back to MIDI is another story.

I just found a surprisingly easy way and it was right on my computer from the start! For SPCs I download the SNESAmp plugin for Winamp and then set the output in Winamp to Disk Writer, then set your file's output directory and it will save all of your music that you play in Winamp to an uncompressed WAV file. I'm pretty sure you can do that same thing to MIDIs too but I'm not sure...let me go try.

    Edit:
It won't work! It plays the MIDI and not save to WAV.
