    Hi,

I started experiencing a problem while creating WAV files from AVI with GoldWave.

The resulting WAV files always have a lower sound volume comparing to original AVI. Somtimes it is so low that I can hardly hear anything.

I had to reinstall some codecs lately but I have installed back ffdshow that, I believe, have all the codecs I need for audio.

Your advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't know about the Goldwave method, but Goldwave should allow you to 'normalize' the wave files as well.

Alternately, you can try AVI2WAV, which is what I usually use, or one of the VirtualDub variants to save the audio streams to a wave-format file.

Thank you for your advice but GoldWave is a really good piece of software and I would not like to dump it especially when I know that I did not change anything in the program settings.

I believe the problem has to do with something else on my PC. The problem is to find it....

I didn't say you had to dump GoldWave. Neither AVI2WAV nor VirtualDub are full-fledged audio editors, just alternate methods you can try to extract the audio stream from a video file.
(Well, okay, VirtualDub's more than that, but it's in no way a replacement for GoldWave. )

In fact, I'd give AVI2WAV a try, anyway, just to see if the problem persists with another utility. Also, you might try using a utility like GSpot or MediaInfo to get more information about the original AVIs - they aren't using AC3 audio, are they?

Thanks! It looks like everything is OK. It is working fine.

What I "like" about software: problems come and go all of a sudden....
