I've owned my Epson R200 for about 8 months now, and I love the quality and ability to print directly on my dvd's. However, after only a couple of months after I bought the printer, I began experiencing problems that a lot of other people on this forum have complained about. The tray doesn't load all the time and has difficulty ejecting. What's sort of strange is that once it has it's inital problem, all subsequent prints work fine (with the occasional nudge to get it going). However, the next day I use the printer, the same problem emerges until I get the first dvd printed ok (then all is well until I power down again).

The reason for this post is to ask other Epson R200 owners if ANYONE has experienced problem free use out of their printer (without having to modify it in anyway). I am really interested in those people who have owned and used it for at least 3 + months (the longer the better). After spending a lot of time reading threads regarding the R200, it almost seems like nearly everyone has some kind of problem with it. I just want to make sure I have perceived the magnitude of the problems with the R200 accurately.

I'm trying to get a good idea as to whether a new Epson R200 might provide me with less or hopefully no problems like I'm experiencing now. I'm in a dileman right now where I'm getting a free R200 and I'm not sure whether to replace my current one or to sell it. If I keep it to only experience the same problems eventually, then that would be such a waste (then I'd have two printers with the same problem). However, if this is a problem that most people experience at some point, then I could just sell it new (minus the ink) and get 50 bucks for it.

So the ultimate question: Does anyone own a R200 who has had it for a few months and NOT have any problems with it?

  2. Had mine for 6mons or so.
In that time I've only had a few loading errors. Not enough to bug me, but enough to say it's not perfect. Then again, I had had a ton of problems with my 40UX and swore I'd never buy another Epson....

I'm very happy with it's general operation and very happy with the quality of it's out put

  3. Does the R300 count? Same internals I believe. Going on 6 months, 5+ sets of replacement cartridges and just installed a CIS. Used primarily for CD's/DVD's & their covers. Had an issue early on with the CD tray being drawn out the back of the machine and erroring when the load arrows are lined up. Found that if I pushed the tray in a quarter inch beyond alignment it worked like a charm every time. Hasn't happened since. Other than that little quirk and the fact that it's an ink hungry little beast I have no complaints. It's a keeper.

    Got it since last August.
The first problem I had is when I changed to generic cartridge. Colors were really bad.
I bought the cis (Jlwsales), and since then it's a real charm.
I have remarked that if I did not print for a while and I want to print a dvd, it will reject the first one. Only the first one and this does not happen often.
I consider that I do not have problem with it.

    So far so good :P

I've owned one since they came out. Have had the same problems you all are discussing including some others not mentioned. The tray transport will occassionally make a horrible grinding noise which sounds like a cogged belt slipping on its cogged wheel/gear. Once that happens, print alignment goes to hell. I have to uninstall the printer and reinstall to reset everything back. No amount of adjustment of print possition will get it back to a centered on the disk condition. Really urks me as other than that it is truly excellent. I wish they would develop a rack and pinnion tray transport that way it would ALWAYS slide in and out and would NEVER have any alignment problems. I would pay $100 more just for that. I use mine for business and personal work. I suppose I could write off a new printer avery 6 months or so but I'd rather not.
