I have a dvd, and 2 .avi files around 20 minutes each. Is there a way to make a backup of the dvd, but add these 2 avi files onto it as well? Possibly with a separate menu or something? Thanks!

TMPGEnc DVD Author should be able to do the job nicely. Convert your AVI files to MPEG-2 (guide here) and then import each of these files using the Add File button. Then import each title from the DVD using the Add DVD VIdeo button. The arrangement of tracks, chapters, menus etc is then completely up to you.
If in doubt, Google it.
