This is my first post and I hope its my only 1 ever asking for advice. Thank you in advance for any advice/help.
I have tried using dvd decoder then dvd shrink then nero to make movie copies. My results are always the same, good picture, good playing dvd till the last 15 to 20 minutes of the movie. Then it gets jerky starts skipping and boom back to beginning.
So I tried re authoring to use only the main movie part, tried using only dvd decoder to make the iso file and burn that with 4 different buring softwares. I am up to 32 burns, ripped from 3 softwares and burned from 4 programs and always the same ending problems. I even tried compressing to 2 gigs and the same result.
I thought maybe this was the result of cheap dvdr spindle I bought. So I bought 3 other kinds that claim high quality video for several dollars a disc and still the same result. I doubt it can be my pc, its not the top of the line any more, but its a p4 1.8 ghz with 3 @ 512 ram chips.
Thank you for your time in trying to help me out,
John

Sounds like bad media. What kind is it?
Give MEDIA ID, not brand.

Please for give my lack of term knowledge here. I am assuming media means the dvdr discs ¿? It says ONID 4x 0001 on the center of the dvdr, then across from that is 0707. Is this what you were asking ?

ONIDTECH, I bet. Horrible discs. That's probably it. What country you in? Buy something better.

Am in Texas USA, the other kind I tried was c+dr47g-afw266 0207.
What do you suggest I use? Cost isnt an issue as long as it works right. -
Maxell (made in Japan), Fuji (made anywhere), TDK... in stores.
Speaking DVD-R here, not +R. Or shop online, PRODISC from rima.com, supermediastore.com, or meritline.com. Almost anything is better than what you have now.

In addition to using good quality media (I have done well with Ritek and TDK), you might consider burning at a slower speed. Having failures and problems occur at the end of your movie indicates that the problems are occurring at the outer rim of your media, where the recording speed tends to be maximized, which might indicate burning at too fast a speed for your media. If you are burning this media at 4x - and it apparently cannot handle it - try 2x on one of them just to see if that is part of the issue.

I wanted to thank you for your advice I ordered the dvdr from online and have had no problems now.
I also upgraded the firmware of the dvdrom. is it possible to do this any faster than, hour of decoding, then a hour of resizing with 20 minutes of burning at 8x?
thanks again -
Hour of decoding sounds high. DvdDecrypter should be able to do it in 15 minutes maybe less.
Make sure DMA is enabled for your DVDrom, and harddrive, it will transfer faster.
Burning - 20 minutes at 8x?? I burn at 4X and that takes less than 20 minutes, mabe closer to 15 or so.
Also good to make sure your DVD burner and Hard drive are on seperate IDE cables inside your computer.
To speed up things, skip DVDdecrypter and use shrink to open the disk and decrypt it while transcoding(shrinking). -
The long rip time is probably because your drive is rip-speed limited. Which means it won't read encrypted discs faster than 2X. Most believe this is to discourage copying, my personal belief is that it is to extend drive life & keep down noise during movie playback by limiting spin speed. The way around is to use hacked firmware.

I just use shrink once I figured out it does it all and save them as iso files. I paided for that nero and its jsut too much bs for something as simple as I was wanting to do. It would never work, so I downloaded several small things from download.com and then found dvdsanta its great, like 2 mb program, it opens up with a picture of old saint nick and has 5 large buttons with options on them. No thrills no bs, plain and simple video files to dvd, end of story. At my age thats what I need.
well I guess for now I will just use what I got, the damn wife still bitching about me spending $200 to finally get this going but she has no problem spending that on a pair of damn shoes she wear 3 times !!
Thanks again -
whats the actual differance between dvd-r and +r ? dont remember now which I bought but I have had zero problems with the Prodisc dvds.
-
One has a + before the r and one has a - before the r.
-r is backed by hollywood, +r is backed by companies that didn't want to pay the royalties to -r creators.
This is aside from the ways each writes to the disk, which is different. +r is newer and I do believe has a more intelligent write to disk method, but they both work for me. I buy whats on sale.
