  1. Hello,

I've used TMPGEnc before and I've successfully encoded 4 movies with it. During the search for this excellent program, I downloaded a total of about 15 different shareware etc avi->dvd programs, and found them all to be rubbish. Finally I found TMPGEnc, so I just used it to convert my movies.

Now I've got enough time to clean up my system, so I uninstalled all of those programs and any extra codecs I had and started from scratch with just a few good programs that I found. However, now when I try and encode a movie with TMPGEnc, it doesn't work.

I believe I'm missing a codec, the file I'm trying to encode is in DivX, and I've installed the 3.11 alpha and 5.21 codec releases.

What it does when I try and encode the movie, I set it so the output size should be roughly 3.7 gigs, and start it going (using default PAL DVD template settings). The output that is produced, however, is roughly 170-180 megs in size and is black when I try and play it. Also the preview window in TMPGEnc is completely black and never shows any image, whereas before it did.

Has anyone encountered this problem before, and if so, what did you do to solve it? As I said, I think it's probably a codec problem, but apart from installing both 3.11 and 5.21 of DivX, I don't know what to do next.

xvid decodes divx no problem. That's not the source of his problems.
Sorry, I had to go see about a girl

  5. SatStorm - do you think you could be a bit more specific? Which codecs? Also the install I have for TMPGEnc is simply a zipped copy of the install directory, same one that I had last time that worked fine.

  6. Found the problem.

I looked under the Environment settings and VFAPI plug-in and I found it said "The file cannot be loaded" for DGVfapi.vfp. So I searched my computer and found that GordionKnot comes with a copy of this file, so I copied it into the TMPGEnc directory and it fixed it.
