I'm not excited either. It's starting to flood outside my building. At least I'm not driving in it. I don't have to be stuck in traffic on the 95 because of the truck I'm looking at that skidded into the median.

That just doesn't look right, and the worst part is it's raining here... Remember I was is Phoenix in January and it was 50-55 out and everyone was running around in coats...

Looks kind of tropical from where I'm sitting... Currently we're at 0F and there's a low tonight of -9F. Forcast has improved since yesterday when they were predicting a low of about -32F.

How many here know what a block heater is?

  9. I do SquirrelDip. you replace a freeze plug in your engine with a block heater, plug it in and it keeps your engine warm.

Funny story (well to me it was, maybe you had to be there):

I was working in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and one of our construction guys was taking his company car in for maintenance. The guy asked if anything specific was needing repair and he replied that the defogger wasn't working.

Car went for service and came back with the fan still not working - the mechanic was questioned and he responded "What's a defogger?"

Windows don't fog up in the tropics - well, not on the inside anyway... They fog up on the outside...

I asked above the block heater question above not trying to be a smart ass - I just figured there's a lot of people who live in warmer climates and have neve had a use for one...

That's aneccessity for my trucks in the winter, diesel's just don't start if they are cold. Either that or you need a glow plug which heats the fuel.

That first picture is impressive BJ_M, that second picture looks like how iot gwts around here every 6 or 7 years when a good norther blows through and it snows for 3 days.

Wasn't aware they were that high, I think the reason it's peculiar to Las Vegas is not because of it being cold enough to snow but that there isn't many days that rains at all. Getting one where it's cold enough and rains or in this case snows is kinda like hitting the lottery.

Conquest - Thanks. Just a pic helps Your place looks like the typical Chicago brownstone yard....living room in front, kitchen in the back ...four or five steps up the stoop to the door, then a unit in the basement, one on the door level and another up the stairs. Am I right?

God I miss that place sometimes ...as you know from my whiney threads in the past It gets in your blood ...

Close. Every other house I've lived in is like that. I now live on the far southwest side by Bedford Park. The houses are slightly different out here. They're smaller. The kitchen is split with where the dining room would be. There's a room in where the back porch should be. The back exit is on the side of house. I'll get a picture to show how they look from the front.

    Here you go:

They look a lot smaller than they really are. The bad thing is that its only the main floor and the basement. No attic (really there is but its more like a tool shed above one of the rooms). Backyards seem to be the same no matter what type of house it is (except for apartments).

    Conquest - Thanks. I was thinking you lived in a 3-unit building. That's obviously a single-family house.

I've seen that style all over there so I know exactly what it's like.

Basements ....I wish We don't have them out here. So you don't get the extra floor space because even back there they don't count towards the heated floor space, or at least they didn't used to, so you guys got an extra floor Here there is no basement thrown in :P

Nah, I used to. Its like the suburbs out here. Full of single-family homes close to the expressway.

You don't have basements out here?

I'm getting homesick with all these pictures.

The snow pic must've been end of last week for here in Vegas. It snowed pretty good here. I get out of work and go to my trunk and pull out my scraper/brush. A guy getting to the car next to me says, "What the heck is that thing?" I start brushing off my car showing him. I finish and am just about to put it back in my trunk when the guy asks, "Can I borrow it for a sec?"

I'm also in a heavy winter coat that's layered and has 3 separate zippers in front with velcro zipper cover. I was nice and toasty outside. Everyone running around freezing their butts off and I was feeling great. 8)
