  1. Hello!

I have an AVI file encoded with "Panasonic and IO-Data GigaAVI" codec. I'm able to play it with my PC players, but when I'm trying to convert this file to DivX (or even start to preview it) inside VirtualDub, I've received an error: "VideoSourceAVI: The source image format not acceptable (error code -2)".

Unfortunately, I'm unable to find any GigaAVI related codecs in Internet. Can you please help me, what type of codec/software do I need to install for this conversion?

    Thank you very much!

Have you tried converting the AVI to MPEG, then using the MPEG to convert to DIVx?

After reading your post, I looked around for that codec, too. Apparently it's called "giga dv avi codec". The 4c is 'IPVD'. The home of it seems to be, www.iodata.jp/products/video/gvdvc

Other than that, nothing. If you can play it, you should be able to find a codec that will work. Have you tried Gspot or AVIcodec to identify?

A long shot, but you might try Panasonic DV codec. Sorry, that's about all I can find.

  4. When I opened this file in GSpot, it shows that video codec is DX50. When I took a look at list of codec installed on my pc, I've found next one:
    -----
    DSH 4CC PDVC
DSH Friendly Name Panasonic and I-O DATA DV GigaAVI CODEC
    DSH Driver or Wrapper C:\WINDOWS\System32\qcap.dll
    DSH DirectShow CLSID CLSID_AVICo {D76E2820-1563-11CF-AC98-00AA004C0FA9}
FIL File Description DV VfW driver
FIL Company Name Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. I-O DATA DEVICE,INC.
    FIL File Version 4,21,0000,0000 - 0039
FIL Internal Name DV Video for Windows driver
FIL Legal Copyright Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (C) 1999-2000 I-O DATA DEVICE,INC.
    FIL Original Filename idvcodec.dll
FIL Product Name Panasonic and I-O DATA DV Video for Windows Driver
    FIL Product Version 4,21,0000,0000 - 0039
    VFW Name DVGigaAVICodec
    VFW Driver File C:\WINDOWS\System32\idvcodec.dll
VFW Description Panasonic and I-O DATA DV GigaAVI CODEC
    ----

Looks like it's different 4cc than you mentioned. As for website - I found that before, and I really wish to be able to read Japanesse

Do you have any ideas, why I can play that, but VDub would not process that? Honestly, I could try to convert it via MPEG, but do not want to take extra step and lose quality if possible..

Thank you very much for your help guys and sorry for these questions - unfortunately I do not have a lot of experience with editing.

Changing the fourCC so that another DV decoder is used may work. Otherwise if it plays ok via dshow you could just load into VDub via AVISynth and directshowsource().
