  1. I cannot get the firmware upgraded on my Pioneer DVR-A07XLB at all! It's currently at 1.10 and I'm trying to upgrade to 1.21 but everytime I try in Windows XP I get a blue screen 0x000000d1 error and the system crashes and reboots.

I tried in DOS as well but the loader says something about unable to load binary file.

I'm trying to upgrade because I've had some problems burning video DVDs and having them not play in consumer DVD players. Yes I know it could be the media but I've tried a couple brands and these have worked before so my thinking is I may have run into the random bugs in my current firmware....figured should get it up to current rev anyway.

My environment is Windows XP Pro SP1 + all hot fixes (minus SP2), Pioneer DVR-A07XLB (shows up as DVR-107D in Windows by the way).

Has anyone else run into this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is frustrating.

  2. OK! This place is a MAJOR GOOD LUCK CHARM....after hours of unsucessfull upgrade attempts, I tried again after posting this message and it WORKED.

What I did differently this time was go to a DOS prompt within Windows, previously I was booting with a Win98 boot disk in DOS, and ran the update for the DVR-A07XL (even though it's detected as a 107D that update doesn't detect it as a 107D).

Hope this helps anyone out there with similar problems. Use the DOS prompt within Windows XP.

    Whew!
