  1. Hi all,

I have just bought & installed a NEC 3520A, my first DVD burner 8).

I'm very pleased with it, and have already used (DVD Shrink and) DVD Decrypter to burn a couple of DVD-Rs successfully.

However, my Nero 5.5 doesn't seem to recognise the drive.

I have a full retail version (i.e. not a bundled version restricted to the drive it came with) of Nero with the latest update (up to 5.5.10.56).

The NEC drive does not show up when I go to Choose Recorder.

The only way I can get Nero to see it at all is with the Autodetect CD-ROM - which I have not gone through with as I need it to be recognised as a recorder, not just a CD-ROm drive.

Nero InfoTool picks up the NEC drive fine, and as I say I've used it with other apps already, so I know that the drive itself works okay (and it looks fine in the Device Manager, POST etc..)

I don't really want to upgrade to Nero 6 if I can help it, or switch to another burning app.

Should my version of Nero be recognising this drive?

    Thanks for any help,
    theDruid.

P.S. I have done quite a bit of searching before asking this question; apologies if it has already been answered ad nauseam, but I couldn't find anything relevant here or elsewhere.

If it is a very new drive, this older version of Nero may not have it listed. Check their site to see if it is there. You may have to upgrade to 6.

It sounds like 5.5 does not support your drive.

You will probably have to upgrade to Nero 6.6.0.5
