Kinda of related, I'm safe for another 5 years. Good thing they didn't find out about the sheep, inflatables, goats, midget clown porn, eskimo amputee porn, gravy packets, Olsen Twin pics, Vaseline incident, commuter train incident, low-earth orbit incident, compressor purchases, ....
I got this beautiful, personal letter today:

Well, I might as well jump on this bandwagon....
My supervisor stopped by my desk at 9:00 this morning (while I was browsing Off Topic). Even though he sits right behind me, he never comes into my cubicle. He says "so, doesn't your contract end sometime soon?". We have been dreading this as my contract ends 21 Jan. The thought of ending a job right after Christmas, and facing a move, looking for a new job, etc. in the middle of winter has been a real strain. Anyway, he said he had been discussing it with the president of the company, and they will at the very least, extend my contract until after NAB (April), and are looking at a way to bring me on as a full time employee (if I'm interested)!
Having that news is going to make Christmas soooo much nicer! 8)

Well, it's semi-official. I was pulled into a conference room this morning and told my offer letter is being drawn up. Starting 1/10 I will be a full time employee. This is really great news for us. Especially since this company pays 100% insurance for employee and family! My wife and I have had to go without for the last 2 years, as it was very expensive just to cover our child. We've also been down to one vehicle for the last year to pay down some debt.
I was a little worried yesterday since they posted a world-wide company email saying they were recruiting for a couple of full time software engineers. At the time, they hadn't told me any more than they were extending my contract until April.
There's going to be a huge party in the tekkie household tonight!

Congrats tekkieman! Good feeling knowing that your job is secure.

@ Capmaster - I taught him everything he needs to know about dodging the government, and that's working for a government weapons facility and moderating a internet video help website to earn money under the table. He won't admit to it, but he gets paid WELL by Baldrick.
(wait, or is it he gets paid by Baldrick for another reason?
Or worse yet, he's getting 2 incomes from Baldrick alone.

GOOD NEWS, TEKKIE!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!
As far as that other thing .....let's just hope they never find out about the amputee dwarf white slavery ring that has turned into a tidy little third income (after the regular job and the mod salary)

Congrats Tekkie!!!
If you play your cards right, you'll be taking the ole Skinboat to Tuna town, my friend!! Nothing like congratulatory sex !!
