I never had any problems backing up my old VCR tapes to DVD for protection. I bought a movie from Amazon and when I went to make a backup copy I got a message to the effect that "tape is copy protected".
I noticed the tab was removed, so I covered it up, but still no soap!
I played the tape and a few seconds of movie plays, then it stops.
I know that macrovision causes brightness variations etc., but is this a variation of it? If so, I can get what I need to defeat it. What say you all?
Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year to all.

I'm not sure what you are asking. Unless you have a recorder that is known to be overly sensitive, which seems unlikely since you didn't have the problem before, then the tape is copy protected. It really doesn't matter if it is macrovision or css, if you want to copy it you need to defeat the protection.

Does anyone know of a good clarifier-stabilizer that is under $100? Facet's Clarifier is $150 and a TBC is way too much for me.

Does a good TBC take care of the whole problem with Macrovision or do you need a stabilizer also...
Thanks

So I can put the DataVideo TBC-1000 between my VCR and DVD Recorder and it will take care of everything for coverting to a DVD from a pre-recorded tape...
