  1. I was wondering what would be faster.

    A 200gig 7,200rpm SATA HD

    or

    A 200gig 7,200rom IDE (ATA133) HD

Newegg has some SATA drives for only $102.
    Both have 9ms seek & 8MB buffer.

I just want to know the difference thanks..

    Happy new year everyone!!

from what i've read the speed difference between a SATA vs IDE ATA 133 isn't much....

SATA is 150 MB/per second vs IDE ATA 133 MB/per second. if you're going to do a lot of video editing and capturing i'd get the SATA hd....that's just my opinion....

Not much but look at those swanky new little tiny cables. There are benefits in other areas. Get SATA so your airflow through your case is much better. Unless you've splashed out on round cables, there's little reason to not choose SATA.

All things being equal (other than 150 vs 133), I'd go with SATA. Some newer boards don't offer PATA. Smaller cables can improve airflow, but on the other hand the cables are a bit more expensive and may not be as sturdy. Still, newer drives offer options like native command queuing.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

My experience says stick with ATA(IDE) for now. I have an SATA drive, and there are alot of errors when I attempt to capture to it, or when I use it to work with my video files. I find it very adequate to store files on, but it's unreliable as a workhorse. In researching my problems I have read many comments (in other forums) on the unreliability of the interface. I had to try different drivers from several different manufacturers before I found one that worked reliably enough to use it for storage. SATA may be newer and cooler, but my personal opinion is that it's not there yet.

Pfft, I'd love a source on that. If you thought floppy (and serial, and parrallel) connectors should have died a long time ago then you'll be amazed that we'll still have regular ATA-133 PATA connections in motherboards until at least 2008...

While PATA is becoming more and more of a legacy device, the VAST majority of PC users still don't know what the hell SATA is

They are virtually the same. PATA drives are generally easier to install (thinking mainly for a boot disk) than SATA HDDs for beginners. Go with whatever is cheaper...
