  1. If this has been mentioned before, I apoligize, but I could not find it on any of the other ilo threads.

After installing the latest firmware revision to fix the audio dropouts that occur when playing files back from the hard drive, I noticed a unforgivable problem:

When recording files longer than about an hour and a half, the audio becomes terribly out of sync with the video after the first 15 minutes.
The problem occured on multiple captures, on multiple quality levels, so that is not part of the issue. Nor is whether or not the clips are captured with chapter points.

What makes this flaw totally unforgivable is the fact that the sync issue isn't simply present when playing back from the ilo's hard drive as the audio dropout issue was-- when you copy the file to a DVD the audio will be just as bad on other DVD players or PCs.

I haven't had the time to flash back to the old firmware to see if the problem goes away.

As much as I have enjoyed this machine (and defended it here), I will now be forced to return it to Wal-Mart -- my 90 day warranty is about 75 days over, and I don't think I have enough faith in ilo (though I give them credit for effort) to wait any longer for them to fix this...

Unless of course anyone here has a workaround...?

  2. I have been running the same firmware sense the day it came out and have no issues what so ever. Have recorded many 2hr shows copied them to DVD edited out the commercials and reburnt them on another DVD to play on our normal DVD players and everything is fine with the exception of the clock gaining time each week.

Just letting you know it is not present in all units. Mine was manufactured in July 04.

  3. I was afraid of that. I just returned the unit to Walmart, and am now faced with paying much more for a different brand unit. If I could be sure that this was an isolated problem, I would gladly repurchase it...

  4. I believe it is isolated. I have this recorder also, and updated it when the new firmware became available. I've recorded many 2 & 3 hr. shows with no problems at all. You may want to take a chance on simply exchanging your unit, then if you still get the same problems you can always return it and try something else.

  5. I've experienced this issue with audio syncing, as have serveral other users with the 1191 firmware. When I was using this firmware I only experienced this problem when viewing an EP recording and only after forwarding or skipping to a chapter. I've reverted back to the 1185 firmware until this issue and the hanging and the "HELLO" prompt have been fixed. I was told by ilo that the new firmware should be out in early January. But it wouldn't hurt for everyone to report these errors to their tech support, they are actually very responsive and usually get back to you in 24 hours.
