  1. ok i will try to go into as much detail as possible about my issue

    1. I got a Pacific Digital U30183 External Dvd Burner (shows in device manager as *Nec Nd-1300A* for christmas and it woudnt burn dvd-r discs so i downloaded a NEC ND-1300A driver and now i can burn -r discs but im burning at like .07 i mean not even burning at 1x on a 8x dvd-r but thats not my only problem..

I am using CloneDVD2 to backup my dvd's and it does the whole process for me after i choose what i want to keep as in *MENUS,EXTRAS,AUDIO TRACKS,* and i backed up E.T 20th ann edition the other night wich is 2 hours plus about 20 mins of extras and the whole process took *4Hrs 23Mins* that just seems WAY to long doesnt it?

Here is what im running it on

    Hp Pavilion

    800mhz
    256Mb ram

I know its not fast pc but im sure it shoudnt take 4hrs 23mins to make a backup

Here is the exact process i use

    1. Put dvd in dvd rom drive (not dvd burner drive)
    2. Put Blank DVD-R in dvd burner drive
    3. Start AnyDVD
    4. Start CloneDVD2
    5. In CloneDVD2 i click the middle option wich is Clone a DVD including all titles and menus
6.Then I choose the Video_TS file of the dvd in my dvd rom drive
    7.Then I Click Next
8.Then I Choose what audio tracks i wanna keep (single Audio Track Usually(
9.Then i click next and choose my dvd write and speed *i choose 4x*
10.Then I Click GO and let it do its thing wich took 4Hrs 23Mins for the last one i did (wich was the only one i have done so far)

So i need some help please

How is the external drive connected. With a PC that old, it is either parallel (using a mock scsi driver) or USB 1. Both of these are very slow, and I can image would limit your data throughput to the burner enough to cause this.

If the burner is an internal burner in an external case, try swapping the DVD-Rom and burner around. You will get slow rips from the rom (or rip from the burner for better speed), but full speed burns from the burner.

  3. The DVD burner is external connected through usb 1.1 and the dvd rom drive is internal

but why should it be so slow since im using the dvd rom to do everything except the actual burning itself?

do you think buying a usb 2.0 slot for my pc would speed things up?

even though its connected through usb1.1 shouldnt i still be able to burn at full speed?

also shouldnt my internal dvd rom be able to rip faster then it is ?

Any more help would be appreciated

    First things first

On the fly copying is not encouraged. It is wayyyy to easy to have errors and mess up what you are trying to do.

    Buy a usb2 card

    That might help.

A USB 2 card, assuming the burner supports USB2, should bring your burn down to about 13 minutes (true x4), as opposed to the hour or more it is currently taking.

Use DVD Decryptor to rip to the HDD (if you have a spare 8GB), then process and burn.

Check Newegg.com for PCI USB 2.0 Cards. And get yourself another stick of RAM. You deserve it.

Just a couple questions real fast

1.Can you point me to a guide for the best way to RIP to hdd using dvd Decryptor and will it make a ISO image?

2.Will it just rip all the vob files then i have to make a ISO image?

3.Will it just rip the vob files and i burn them as data?

sorry but im new to dvd burners

  9. If you read the box it cam in it should say USB2.0 as a part of the requirements.

I didn't find your exact model but a similar $X external shows as follows:

The U-30194 is the most universal portable DVD recording solution available today.

Pacific Digital's 4x ‘Dual' Format DVD writer connects to either a USB 2.0 port OR a Firewire (1394) port and supporting both DVD+RW and DVD-RW media.

I suspect that yours is more or less the same model minus the firewrae option. You will notice that it shows USB 2.0, A HP 800 Mhz has USB 1.1 much, much slower throughput to the drive. Be glad it even works with 1.1

    Cheers
