    hi there,

this goes out to people who know about programming subtitle tools.

as far as I know there is no way of adding subtitles to an avi file which has already been encoded (by using divx, xvid, whatsoever) without fully reencoding it, which is always a relatively big quality loss.

Wouldn't it make sense to have a subtitler-tool which makes it possible to just reencode the lower part of the image where the subtitle actually resides?
Consequently about 90% of the picture wouldn't be changed and quality would be greatly preserved...?

Just an idea. Thanx for replies.

I never heard of that prodeure before. You may want to try frameserving to see if the quality loss, if noticeable, is acceptable.
    Hello.
