This is my first post. I have a Panasonic DMR-E85H and I am very happy with it. I have had it about a month and it is my first attempt in the DVD recording world. I read in an earlier post about recording in the FR mode and some instructions on how to do it so you could have fast dubbing. The post said you could record in the timer and vcr plus modes. When I click on Flexible record I get a box that allows me to select a start and end times and to start recording button. I can not figure out how to set the timer to record in the FR mode. If some one would tell me how in simple terms I would really appreciate it. I have learned more from this forum than from the manual that came with the unit. I guess the manual is sufficient for someone familiar with DVD recording but for us who are just starting its a little shy. Thanks

I think you're confusing the "recording time" screen with the timer itself. When you record in FR mode it asks you how long the recording is, then it sets the bitrate so the entire disc is used for that recording. It's the recording length you're entering, not the time.

Setting up the timer, you enter start time, end time, channel, and there's a box where you select the recording mode - "XP, SP, LP...etc". That's where you enter "FR" and it'll do the same thing - adjust the bitrate to maximize the quality and still fit it onto the disc. Panasonic's FR mode works very well, and is the only mode I use.

Just remember that for timer recordings, all you need to set is in the timer window. You don't need to set up FR separately. That's only if you want to manually start a recording using FR mode

Thank for the info. I could not see the forrest for the trees. I've got a handle on it now. Recording in the FR mode sure saves a lot of time in dubbing over the slow method when the program is over 2 hours.
