  1. After i edited DV i convert it with Mainconcepts encoder with these settings.

    variable bitrate

    8,000 max kbps
    6,000 Average kbps
    2,500 min kbps

Audio MPEG Layer 2 224 kbps

Will making all my DVD's at these settings be ok on most DVD players? It works on the one i have.

I was using PCM audio but i tryed using MPEG layer 2 and it took almost a gig in file size off and i didn't hear any differance.

That should be fine, although the MP2 audio may not work on some machines that expect full DVD compliance.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  3. Is there any other type of audio i could use besides PCM?

If i ever got a DVD player that didn't play it i can just convert it back to PCM right?

    Thanks for the help.

AC3 audio is part of the DVD spec for both PAL and NTSC and occupies the same space as MP2 audio, and is arguably slightly better quality-wise at the same bitrates as MP2.

In all honesty, what I said about MP2 not playing is probably just a myth IMO. All DVD players should be able to play it, but the issue comes where your DVD is not strictly DVD compliant if it only has MP2 throughout the whole disc. However I am yet to see or hear of a player that won't play it on its lonesome.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Well it's home movies. I couldn't hear any differancve between PCM and MP2....MP2 just made the file smaller so i could fit more on a DVD without messing with the video. My MiniDV has 12bit and 16 bit audio i'm guessing 16bit is better?
