    As of late, my Sony DRU-510A will only burn 4x Ritek G04 media at 2x (max speed) using both Nero 6.6.0.3 and the latest version of CloneDVD. I can still burn at 4x using DVD Decrypter.

    I am running XP Pro SP2. I've been using the burner since November of 2003, and have burned less than 500 DVDs with the unit. Is the software faulty or could the DRU-510A be dying? Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I don't have time to burn everything at 2x.

    have you tried that DSS program for this drive http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/dru510adwn.htm

    i use it to speed up my rips when i rip with this drive

    Re-installing the firmware seems to have fixed the problem!
