  1. I have converted more than a few movies in my day. But I have a simple question. Maybe I am just missing something. And I did do a search of the forums, but couldn't find anything that answered my questions. Maybe I just missed it. I dunno, but here it is.

Why is it that when I convert a 2 hour movie, the mpeg version of it usually takes up 1 disc (700mb) per 1 hour part of the flick. I split the avi into 2 parts, each part about 1 hour in length. Then I encode. The result is a 1 hour mpeg which fits nicely on that 700 mb disc. But now when I have a movie that is only 1 hour long, I figure there is no need to split the avi. But boy am I wrong. When I go to encode the 1 hour movie, the resulting output file is about 1.4 gb. Why is that? Why is a 2 hour movie splittable into 2 parts and hence 2 discs, but a 1 hour movie still seems to need 2 discs to be completed?

Strange, or am I just noobin out and missing some important detail that is right smack dab in front of my nose?

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions you can provide. I love you guys!

    ssj out!

Knowing absolutely nothing about your method, the programs that you use and the settings...I will still go ahead and make the prediction that the bitrate that you are using is too high to fit it on one disk. In order to calculate the proper bitrate you either use a bitrate calculator or use the project wizard in TMPGEnc which has one built in.

vcd is around 10MB/minute so one hour should be around 600 MB.

have you checked so itsn't just black at the end? tmpgenc may get the video length wrong if the video has mp3 vbr audio
