I've been having this one annoying problem with my LCD monitor. When my computer is not in use, I turn off the monitor. If I don't turn off the monitor and it's been idle for about 30 minutes, then the screen automatically turns black and then the light on the monitor will turn from green to orange. The desktop will appear whenever you wiggle the mouse.

Whenever I turn off the monitor when it is already black (when the light is orange) and then turn it on again several hours later, I get this error on my monitor "No Signal". The wires and cables are all connected properly, none of them are loose. No matter how much I wiggle my mouse, the desktop won't come back. The hard drive's light is on. When I try to click the restart button, it doesn't respond. So I had to turn off the power adapter and turn it back on, then turn on the computer.

How do I avoid it doing that? It gets very annoying. If this matters, I use Windows 2000.

Go into Power Options under Control Panel and you'll see your answer...

There's nothing wrong. Here are my settings:

    Power Scheme: Home/Office Desk
Turn Off Monitor: After 20 min.
    Turn Off Hard Disks: Never

That's all the options that are checked.

It doesn't sound like a problem with your monitor.

Sounds like a problem in the PC. Did (or does) it happen with a different monitor? Does it happen every time, or only some of the time?

Could be, but in my case, but my second PC is set to shut off the LCD after a half hour, and it always comes back up when I wiggle the mouse, even after an hour or more. Maybe different PC's react differently to this setting?

But, it's a good suggestion, and might cure his problem. Who knows?

I only have one LCD monitor for one computer and it's a hassle to take it out since the cords and cables are facing a wall and then covered by furniture. I'll try that I guess. And no, it only happens sometimes.

I've seen certain onboard video chipsets have issues with waking up the monitor such as you describe. As budz recommends, set the monitor switch off to never, and control it with the power button on the front of the monitor.
    If in doubt, Google it.
