  1. Hi-
I have been capturing VHS tapes via VCR and RCA cables to my computer (Hp Media Center 1195) through the designated front patch area.

I have some files which when played after transfer, have a lot of Digi noise type pops and crackles, which are not in the original video tape.
Any ideas what is causing or introducing this into the final product..
Thanx in advance for your help-

Mic may have +DB boost on. Can cause it, even if MIC not used.

Volume may be too loud on system or capture software.

  4. I sometimes get crack/pop audio noise. Found out it was the tracking on my VCR. Sometimes if I change my VCR's audio settings from stereo to mono the noise is alot cleaner. This is especially true for VHS tapes which were recorded on another VCR.

Make sure the audio you're capturing matches the audio you're outputing to tape. If you capture 16bit 48kHz, then output 16bit 48kHz. I realize you are outputting to analog tape but if you are going through a SPDIF to a reciever and then to tape, you may have crackle in the final recording.
Your miserable life is not worth the reversal of a Custer decision.
